Chapter 1, question 6

Reading the chapter 1, I found myself excited about economy, examples that Wheelan provided, but more importantly, I found passages that I considered as significant and memorable.

"Economy is the art of making the most of life" (6).

When I read this phrase after I read the whole chapter, I was able to understand myself in this complex world a little bit better and I connected it to everything Wheelan understandably said. Firstly, everyone is trying to think about themselves as individuals, making themselves as well off as possible. But what if making myslef as well off as possible isn´t making the most of my life? How will I reach the point when I will take the most I can? Secondly, everybody is trying to make themselves as well off as they can, forgetting the others, for example, when the South Americans cut down trees in the rainforests, it maybe benefits them, considering the short run, but as the problem was raised in the first chapter, what about the whole planet, that is being destroyed, because of it? Moreover, Wheelan mentioned that I have a choice, I chosen to buy this book, I chose to read it, instead of doing something else- it referres to the opportunity cost, I as an individial weight the costs and benefits of me reading the book, maybe I won`t be able to watch a movie tonight, but as an exchange, I will be better off in the long run, getting the most I can get of what I chose to do.
