"The Wall Street Journal reports, "Frosty air conditioning is a way for businesses and building owners to show that they're ahead of the curve on comfort. In ostentatious Asian cities, bosses like to send out the message: We are so luxurious,we're arctic."" (121).
This passage made me laugh when I read it, because a family friend is now living in Tokyo, Japan. It also has relevance to what I experience in New Orleans in July of 2012. It was hot, muggy, and rainy, and every building, including our hotel, was freezing cold. In the end, everyone had the heat on in their rooms, just like the workers who have space heaters for their freezing offices.
