Ch.6 question 1
The idea of human capital is particularly noticeable in my life because of my parents; my mother never finished college and she is now a preschool aid, my dad got a degree and is now a senior international tax manager. Needless to say, one makes way more money than the other, and I am glad for it. If my family did not have that significant increase in human capital, I would not be where am now; nice(-ish) clothes, a full stomach, in a good school and headed for a good college. My parents have invested huge amounts in my education, in my human capital, and for it I can learn to do interesting and high paying work. I was reminded while reading this chapter of a terrible sitcom from when I was in 2nd grade, Boy meets world, in the episode about the importance of learning and respecting one's teachers the nerdy kid expressed outrage that their respectable ( but disliked) teacher only made four figures, the protagonist thought that this was way too much money but the nerdy kid explained it was too little for what this teacher did- mentor youths and increase their human capital- later in the series this same teacher convinces the protagonist to go to college and learn about science (his main interest).
