CHAPTER 4 QUESTION 5

For a majority of chapter 4, the issue of whether the government should be implemented in our economy was discussed. The spectrum of opinions is very wide. Some believe that the government should be very much involved, some believe it should have little to no involvement and others believe that the government should stay as far a way as possible from our economy. "In short, government is like a surgeon's scalpel: It is an intrusive tool that can be used for good or for ill"(103). Based on my present knowledge of this topic, I personally believe that the government should not be involved in our economy. A free market economy allows open competition resulting in best possible pricing for consumers. The government can only limit competition costing consumers more money and stifles human spirit to want to compete.
