Chapter 9
One idea that I really liked from this chapter was when they were comparing the prices of things in the 1900's and now. A great example they used was when they were talking about a pair of socking that cost 25 cents in 1900 and now they cost around 4 dollars. One could say that is costs a whole lot more but if you put it in perspective it really doesn't. A quote from the book that I liked was, "The real cost of living isn't measured in dollars and cents but in the hours and minutes we must work to live". This goes perfectly with the example. To be able to buy stocking in 1900 you would have to work for 1 hour and 41 minutes while now to buy stockings one would only have to work 18 minutes.
