Chapter nine question six
6.) talk about specific passages that struck you as significant- or interesting, profound, amusing, illuminating, disturbing, sad. What was memorable
"Similarly, growing richer must make us better off because we can do and have more things that make us happy"(p. 198).
GDP is the main focus of chapter nine. Wheelan describes why GDP is a good indicator of how our country is doing economically. Wheelan also discusses, in chapter nine, why GDP is a bad indicator of how our country is doing because it does not always account for the well-being of the people. Results from a survey conducted show that people who are married are often much happier than those who aren't. Although the single individuals are making approximately $100,000 more per year. I found this passage very interesting. People seem to believe that the more money you have the happier you will be. In some cases this is true. However people with moderate incomes seem to be happier than the very wealthy. Having more money has the potential to make life easier but that does not always mean happier.
