With a name like "The Federal Reserve" I had always thought that the Fed was directly controlled and dependent on politicians. I had no idea that the Fed is considered relatively independent from the government. This is a good thing because it prevents the government from "playing the inflation card" and destroying the value of the dollar (and therefore the country's economy) and it prevents dastardly politicians from appointing all of there friends into the Fed (because of the 14 year tenure), which could be very bad for everyone (hidden agenda). The Fed is like its own little unique...system... that controls the value of money, much of which is separated from the government. I imagine the Fed as a group of scientists overseeing rats in a lab that are on wheels generating power (consuming), putting up obstacles when they run too fast and zapping them with a friendly bolt of electricity when they run too slow. With metaphors like these its very easy to imagine some larger set of controls in place. (perhaps being increasingly implemented)
-The rats are mostly content with their very simple roles as power sources of a large machine that is slowly growing and always adding new rats... when will our furry friends realize the utter misuse of and negative implications their existence?
