Chapter 6
Human capital and productivity. These were the two main topics of chapter 6. Human capital is what people have or are when you strip away all of your possessions like your house and your job. Productivity is our efficiency or how good we are at making things. One part of this chapter that I found particularly interesting was when they talked about how Thomas Malthus predicted that as our society grew richer, our gains wouldn't even matter because our population growth would also increase, therefore they would use up all the new wealth the society just created. If this was true we as a society would never grow or gain wealth. Malthus was right for awhile because for 55 of the last 57 centuries the world population grow but human condition didn't very much. I would say the reason why it hasn't continued for the last 2 centuries is because of all the advancements in technology. If it wasn't for technology I don't think we would have better human condition. Technology increased our productivity a ton which helped o better our human conditions.
